macOS New App Release – MacUpdater 1.2.7

Product Announcements – Independent development team, CoreCode of St. Julians, Malta has released MacUpdater 1.2.7, their new app updating utility for macOS. MacUpdater scans any Mac’s Application folder, quickly identifying installed applications that have updates available. Apps can then be updated with just a few clicks of the mouse.

In addition to its speedy manual scanning abilities, MacUpdater can be set to run automatically at startup, placing itself in the Menu Bar, where it runs quietly in the background. The app periodically checks installed apps for any available updates, notifying users when a new update is available. A handy numbered icon indicator keeps a tally of how many apps need updating, and the update process can be started by clicking the Menu Bar icon.

“While the Mac App Store does a good job of updating apps that are purchased in the Mac App Store, there isn’t a reliable way to know when the apps you’ve downloaded and installed from other sources require an update,” says CoreCode marketing manager Brigitte Zmoelnig. “MacUpdater gets rid of the drudgery of manually checking your apps one-by-one for updates, making it convenient to let the app take care of things.”

MacUpdater not only checks for available app updates, in most cases the utility can also download and install the update for you. When MacUpdater can’t automatically update an app, it can launch the app’s updater for you. The app even detects when Mac App Store apps need an update. While MacUpdater can’t update those apps, it can open the Mac App Store, so users can update the app there.

Features include:

  • Automatically tracks the latest updates available for installed Mac apps
  • Finds the latest version that’s compatible with the installed macOS version
  • Apps with updates listed in red for easy detection
  • Provides one-click update for many apps, just click the “Update” button for any app
  • Loads at startup, runs quietly in the background
  • Low impact on system resources
  • Notifies users when updates are available
  • Filter Bar: Show all apps, or just apps that are not up-to-date
  • Menu Bar icon indicates how many app updates are available
  • Optionally makes backups of app before updating them
  • Use concurrently on up to 5 Macs
  • Free trial download allows updating 10 apps
  • Total Privacy: No registration needed
  • Pay just once, no subscription required

MacUpdater can detect available updates for over 30,000 apps, and the list is growing every day. The app can auto-update around 3,500 popular apps with the click of a button, and that list also continues to grow. While some application vendors, such as Microsoft and Adobe, don’t as yet allow updates outside of their closed systems, the CordCode team is working on it. The team is also working on the ability to queue multiple app updates, as well as the ability to view release notes for updates before updating.

“MacUpdater ensures your Mac’s installed apps stay up to date. Never again do Mac users have to miss out on important updates that bring new features and eliminate frustrating bugs,” says product manager Jamie Stevenson. “Our users tell us that they love the app, and they’ve been offering some terrific feedback that we’re using to make the app even better.”

Device Requirements:

  • macOS 10.11 or later
  • Compatible with macOS High Sierra
  • 64-bit Processor
  • 10.8 MB

MacUpdater 1.2.7 is a free download and is available worldwide exclusively through the CoreCode website. Users can scan for updates for free and update up to 10 apps for free. Users can pay $9.99 USD (or an equivalent amount in other currencies) to unlock the ability to update additional apps.

macOS New App Release – DriveDx 1.8.0

Product AnnouncementBinaryFruit of San Francisco, California has released DriveDx 1.8.0, its latest solution for SSD and HDD health diagnostics and monitoring. As macOS does not have a comprehensive drive health indicator, DriveDx fills a critical role in measuring the overall health of both SSD and HDD drives. Because DriveDx tracks more indicators of impending failure than any other product on the market, users will get an advanced warning before their drives fail. This will allow them to take action to avert the failure and save themselves from resulting data loss and downtime.

Unlike many other drive health diagnostics utilities that simply check built-in S.M.A.R.T. status, DriveDx performs overall drive health diagnostics using drive health indicators (like SSD wear out / endurance, reallocated bad sectors, offline bad sectors, pending sectors, I/O errors, and more) that most closely correlate with drive failures according to the statistics reported in the latest researches focused on identifying drive failure trends. This gives a user a comprehensive picture of a current drive health status and enables foreseeing potential problems with drive failure and loss of sensitive data. Moreover, DriveDx shows this information on a user-friendly Mac-style interface in an easy-to-understand format.

“Here’s a DriveDx triumph. DriveDx showed my just out of AppleCare iMac with two pre-fail conditions for the hard drive. Made appointment and took it to Genius Bar yesterday. Tech looked at DriveDx and was very impressed. Even though out of warranty – they replaced the drive without question,” said Michael Sidoric, CapMac User Group Treasurer, ex-Vice President of CapMac.org. “God knows how many dollars and troubles DriveDx saved me since I had several vital FinalCut projects on it.”

DriveDx is a combined drive health analysis and forecasting tool. It monitors and analyzes changes to S.M.A.R.T. attributes in order to continuously evaluate drive health status and predict drive failures. In addition to “Failed” and “OK” drive statutes DriveDx supports “Warning” and “Failing” statuses indicating that a drive is in a pre-failure status and backup of sensitive data is highly recommended.

DriveDx performs both SSD and HDD health diagnostics. Moreover, it uses a separate set of indicators for SSD and HDD to monitor drive health status. This is particularly important as SSD works different from HDD, and requires a different algorithm to check its health status. Also, SSDs typically are more dependent on firmware than HDDs, and DriveDx has been programmed to support many versions of firmware (please see our website for a complete list of supported firmware).

DriveDx allows configuring the delivery of customized drive status and free space reports by e-mail and therefore does not require user presence to inform about drive status changes. In addition, DriveDx can launch built-in drive diagnostics self-tests. Drive self-tests will help to quickly identify if the drive is faulty.

DriveDx is the first utility of its kind to have a real user-friendly Mac-style interface. It is organized in a way that allows a user to view and understand drive status and its performance at a glance. User can switch between different view modes to drill up or down data related to drive health, including S.M.A.R.T. indicators and attributes, drive statistics and errors.

What’s New in DriveDx 1.8.0:

  • Added support of 110 new SSD models (from Apple, Samsung, Crucial/Micron, Toshiba, SanDisk, Intel, WD, SK Hynix, Plextor, Corsair, OCZ, Transcend, Kingston, ADATA, etc)
