macOS New App Release – PDF Studio 2019

Product Announcements Qoppa Software of Atlanta, Georgia has released PDF Studio 2019, their powerful, intuitive PDF Editor for macOS. This new version delivers integration with Docusign and Cloud Storage Services to help users manage, store and sign electronic documents, as well as user accessibility tools to create PDF/UA compliant documents. PDF Studio 2019 adds many new exciting features, including:

* Cloud Storage Integrations: Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive
* Docusign® Integration
* Creation of Accessible Tagged PDFs (PDF/UA)
* Split Document View
* Improved PDF Overlay Comparison (Now Vector Export!)
* Fix Scan Tool
* Sanitize Tool

Two new major integration features in this version will help users track, store and manage their PDF documents and reduce paper use, at work or at home. They are available on all platforms (macOS, Windows, and Linux), not only in Qoppa’s PDF editing application, PDF Studio but also in Qoppa’s free PDF reader, PDF Studio Viewer.

PDF Studio 2019 is fully integrated with major document storage systems, Dropbox, Google Drive, and One Drive, allowing users to browse, load and save documents from and to the cloud, in the same easy way as they access files on their local file system.

The Docusign integration makes it easy to manage legal agreements that require third-party signatures, such as invoices, leases, work orders or rental contracts. Documents and forms are created and customized in our PDF editing application, then sent seamlessly to Docusign, through the integrated interface, where they can be populated with signatures fields, and sent off for signing. The integrated document workflow will no doubt save valuable time and effort in the daily routine of many business professionals and contractors.

User accessibility features were added in version 2019, allowing users to create accessible tagged PDFs, by exploring, verifying, creating and editing tags in a document. The accessibility tags are attached to the different objects present in the content of a PDF, such as headings, images, paragraphs, and tables. They are designed to help accessibility software, such as screen readers, understand the document structure and present the information accurately to readers with disabilities. PDF/UA standard is the PDF sub-format that defines these tags.

The new Split Document View allows to view or inspect the content of two non continuous PDF pages in a long and complex PDF document at once. It is useful when users need to refer to one part of a document, while reading another. There are options to split the view vertically or horizontally, and to copy the zoom level from one view to the other.

The already powerful Overlay Comparison feature was enhanced this cycle, allowing to compare 2 or more PDF documents by changing their color then overlaying them, in such a way that identical content is shown in gray and differences are highlighted in different colors. This feature is especially useful for architects and engineers to visually identify even small differences in architectural drawing and blueprints. The new automatic alignment and scaling tool makes it easy to precisely superimpose documents coming from different sources and having disparate offset, scale, or even rotation. For performance and accuracy, the exported comparison document is now vector based, with all overlaid documents saved in separate layers, that can be turned on and off with a click.

Fix Scan comes with various functions to clean up scanned documents, including a deskewing function to straighten pages, an OCR function to recognize and add searchable text, and finally an optimize function to reduce the size of the images, and improve image resolution and compression algorithm.

PDF Studio 2019 includes many other improvements, such as a sanitize tool, search and markup, search & redact, ability to customize quick access toolbar with favorite tools, merge and flatten layers. PDF Studion is available from the website.

A Look Back at ‘John’s Notes’ for June 2019

I have been seeing other Bloggers post a monthly review of what they have posted. I thought that I would give that a try. This is my first monthly summary and I will see how you, my readers react to it. You may see some posts listed more than once when they fit into multiple categories.

Expanded FREE iOS, tvOS AND macOS Software List for 06/2019

I have been publishing a list of free software for iOS, tvOS and OS X each month for some time.  Starting with the June 2019 list I have expanded the coverage to include many more titles for macOS. This month there are over 160 software titles listed.

Please give me feedback if this expanded list is valuable to you.

You may find some of these programs of interest. I have also attempted to mark which Apple OS the title is targeted at (iOS, macOS, tvOS) as well as the category of the App.

This is NOT a curated list. All I know about these titles is what you see below. None have been tried or tested by me.

June 2019

  1. iOS/Games – Get in on the fun that’s being hailed around the globe – Pictoword is a game of words that keeps your brain sharp and on the edge of your seat. Based on pictures, you are challenged to build a word out of a sequence of pictures. While it sounds simple and easy, it can get tricky. Our minds think on one thing when we say a word out loud, but our thoughts and ideas are steered by what we see. The pictures you see may not have anything to do with the final word, so while you think you might be able guess the answer quickly, think again. Free on the App Store
  2. iOS/Game – It won’t take you to the beach in body, but it may do so in mind. Word Beach Fun takes the basic premise of a word game and puts it into the context of a game, where the setting looks like you are on a tropical beach, surrounded by coconuts and island fruits. What is unique about this game is that it’s a combination word building game with crossword. You are given letters out of which you must create a word. The words will fit into a crossword puzzle space, so you will see how many letters you need to use up. Free on the App Store
  3. macOS/Productivity – Notebook lets you take notes, create checklists, record audio, and capture moments. All your notes are instantly synced across your devices and to the cloud. macOS New App Release – Graphic Inspector 2.4.3

Product Announcements Zevrix Solutions of Toronto (ON), Canada has released Graphic Inspector 2.4.3, a maintenance update to the company’s quality control solution for images and vector graphic files. The software can check entire folders of documents for potential problems according to specific workflow requirements. Graphic Inspector is the only tool on the market that lets the graphics industry professionals inspect both raster images and Adobe Illustrator documents.

The new version eliminates the hassles associated with Apple Event sandboxing, a new security measure introduced in macOS Mojave. Under the new policy, applications can no longer interact with each other without prior user authorization. This change directly affects Graphic Inspector which requires access to the Finder and other system resources in order to retrieve and analyze the file data. The new update streamlines the authorization process by clearing all permissions during launch time, which eliminates workflow interruptions during file processing. Graphic Inspector will also reset Apple Event permissions automatically if the authorization was previously revoked by accident.

“Graphic Inspector displays every bit of useful information about vector or raster graphics files and flags the ones that match rules you define,” writes Jay Nelson in Layers magazine. “With its combination of price, utility, and thoughtful design, Graphic Inspector is a rare gem.”

Graphic Inspector is designed to help users of any trade, whether it’s print, prepress, web design, or digital photography. For example, users can quickly locate files whose color mode is CMYK, format – TIFF, resolution is below 300 dpi, ICC profile isn’t “US Web Coated” and so on. The app offers the following key features:

* Preflight multiple images and vector files
* Customizable checkup presets
* Common checks such as resolution, color mode, and ICC profile
* Professional prepress checks: spot colors, fonts in vector files, image compression and more
* Search image metadata

Pricing and Availability:
Graphic Inspector can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $19.95 (USD), as well as from authorized resellers. Graphic Inspector is free with the purchase of PDF Checkpoint or InPreflight Pro for Adobe InDesign. A trial is also available for download. The update is free for users of version 2 ($10 to upgrade from version 1). Graphic Inspector requires macOS 10.7-10.14.

macOS New app Release – GraphicConverter 11

The utility, popularly known as the “Swiss Army Knife” of image editing applications, can convert any of over 200 graphic file formats into any of over 90 other graphic formats.

The 1.5 million global users of GraphicConverter will find exciting new features in version 11, including a useful macro recording function, a RAW developer feature, the ability to view and unpack archive files, the ability to create gradients and duo-tone images, and more.

“GraphicConverter 11 has arrived and comes with important new functions that many users will surely have been waiting for,” says Thorsten Lemke, founder of Lemke Software GmbH. “Of course, it still features simple usage and a wealth of functions that no other program can offer.”

New Features Include:
* Record Macros: Save time by recording steps and applying them to other files
* RAW Developer: A full-screen dialog is now available when opening RAW files
* Unpack Archives: View or unpack archive files

* Gradients: Easily create color gradients with up to 10 colors
* Duo-Tone: Color shots with two colors to duo-tone images
* Apple Finder Tags: Use the context menu to directly display and change Finder tags

GraphicConverter 11 continues to be the most efficient way available on the Mac to capture, import, convert, and export images. The app offers users powerful yet easy to use image editing and slideshow capabilities, providing color management profiles, 3D image support and so much more.

Features Include:
* Ability to open files in 200 graphics formats
* Ability to export to over 90 different formats
* Graphical file and picture browser
* Slide show functions
* Powerful batch processor feature
* Import directly from camera (also RAW)
* Catalog generation (web, print, picture)
* TWAIN and image capture interface for scanners
* Direct support of the photo services Flickr and locr
* Support for Applescript
* Express picture enhancement function
* Powerful functions for editing pictures

GraphicConverter 11’s Record Macros function allows users to record functions they use repeatedly in the same order to apply to other files. The new function saves time, making it easier to apply functions to multiple images.

The new RAW Developer feature makes it easier to edit RAW images, thanks to its full-screen dialog when opening RAW files, which offers controls for Exposure, Contrast, and Color Corrections. Picture noise can be reduced, even with 6 controllers.

GraphicConverter’s Unpack Archives feature allows users to view the pictures and documents inside an archive file and unpack them if so desired. The function works with ZIP, TAR, TGZ, and more formats, 13 in all. Plus, editors that organize their work using Apple’s Finder Tags will appreciate the browser context menu’s ability to directly display and change these tags.

Wide-angle photography always has a tendency to distort faces and objects on each end of an image. GraphicConverter 11’s new Wide Equalization feature reduces the distortion, making the shots look more natural.

New functionality in the app now means creating a gradient as a background for a collage or other use is as simple as a few clicks of the mouse. Easily create color gradients with up to 10 colors. The new Duo-Tone feature allows photographers to color their shots with two colors. The darker shades use color 1, while the lighter tones use color two.

“GraphicConverter 11 is a better value than ever, thanks to the new tools we’ve added to the utility,” continues Thorsten. “If you’d like to try GraphicConverter to make sure it fits your needs, you can download the trial version and give it a try.”
