USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – Magnum Coffee Roastery

(See my other Food and Location related posts) – I have liked Coffee for many years, Recently I have finally converted my wife to appreciate a good brewed cup as well.

While were recently in Nevada we looked for a new coffee roasters to try. We found a gem in Magnum Coffee Roastery. We visited their location at 1335 E. Sunset Rd. Suite A, Las Vegas, NV.  Magnum is a family-owned business with the home-base at 1 Java Blvd.
Nunica, MI 49448.

The Las Vegas location is spacious with a variety of coffee and tea for sale. We have become fond of flavored coffee and Magnum has some good ones. While were were there we purchased four flavors. The local favorite is ‘Vegas Golden Knights’. We also bought ‘Hilanger Grogg’ (butterscotch with a hint of liqueur), ‘Cinnamon Hazelnut’ (Cinnamon & roasted Hazelnut), and ‘Love Potion #9’ (Chocolate, Hazelnut & Cinnamon).

We have enjoyed all four and had ‘Love Potion’ again this morning. If you visit their website you will find a wide variety of both coffee blends and flavored coffee. At the time I am writing this post there are 114 choices of flavored coffee.

if you enjoy coffee and are near a Magnum Coffee location I recommend that you try some of their coffee!

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – The Cupcakery

TC -1 IMG_1473

(See my other Dessert related posts) – A while back when we were in Nevada my brother-in-law suggested we try The Cupcakery. It is located at 9680 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89123.  That is just behind Hot’n Juicy Crawfish.

TC-2 IMG_0012

It is also located very near two other very good bakeries – Le Paris Brest Cafe and Gama Mexican Bakery & Cakes. As the name implies, this bakery specializes in cupcakes of all kinds.

TC-3 IMG_3036

Their selection was not as good as we would have liked, but we were there in the afternoon. It is best to order in advance to get what you want.

TC-4 IMG_8377

We were able to pick out a few that were very good. I can’t remember what the flavors were now but we liked them all. Cupcake flavors vary from month to month. Check their online order form to see what is currently available. At the time I write this there are 27 different cupcakes available for order at $3.60 each.

The Cupcakery opened in January of 2006 and sold more than 275,000 cupcakes during their first year in business. If you like cupcakes, check this place out if you are in the Las Vegas area.

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – Coca-Cola Store

CS-1 o

When we were in Nevada recently we took the time to visit some of the tourist spots on the Vegas Strip. The first place we visited was the M&M’S Store. Fortunately just down the street was the Coca-Cola Store.

This store is located at Coca‑Cola Store Las Vegas, 3785 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109.

The store has Coca-Cola branded merchandise of all kinds.

CS-6 IMG_7132

One of the features of the store is the small cafe on the second floor.

CS-7 o-3

While you can get a variety of Coke products, the first thing we tried was the “Taste of the World” assortment of 16 Coke products from around the world.

You get two trays each with eight glasses of beverage.

Some of these were pretty good. Some were left after a brief taste. The one we liked the least was “Beverly” from Italy.

We ended up buying root beer ice cream floats to clear the taste.

CS-3 MG_4584

Even in the cafe, you had Coca-Cola merchandise around you. While the cafe was busy, they had the tables spread out for social distancing.

CS-2 IMG_5121

I never knew so many things were imprinted with the Coca-Cola logo!

CS-4 IMG_3179

Much of their merchandise was clothing oriented.

CS-5 IMG_3070

if you are a Coke fan you will likely enjoy a visit to this store. On Trip Advisor is it rated at 4.5/5 and on Yelp at 4/5. Even during the COVID-19 outbreak, it was busy. The staff was careful to only let in a few customers at one time. Even with this control we only waited about 10 minutes in a widely dispersed line. I can only imagine how packed it would have been otherwise under normal circumstances.

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – Crêpe Expectations

CE-1 IMG_9845

When we were in Nevada a few weeks ago we ventured out to visit Crêpe Expectations. It is located at 9500 S. Eastern Ave Ste 18, Las Vegas, NV. Owner-chefs and married couple Larry Cox and Ana Topete began with a food trailer in early 2010. By May they had moved into their current location. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They offer a variety of beverages including beer and wine.

CE-4 IMG_4031

It has an interesting look to the establishment. They certainly like the color purple.

CE-3 IMG_0658

We were actually able to sit inside and eat. Not many restaurants were yet open for inside dining.

I had first thought that all they would have is desserts. I was surprised to find that they had ‘breakfast’ and ‘lunch’ style crêpes as well. Their menu contains nearly 30 different crêpes.

CE-2 IMG_3320

I had the “Marco Polo” (Above – Mild ground Italian sausage, scrambled egg, and Jack cheese). It made for a very good breakfast.

CE-5 IMG_4828

We also had two other crêpes. The one to the right is “The Simple Delight”. It came with a choice of cinnamon, vanilla, or lemon sugars. The one shown is with cinnamon sugar.

CE-6 IMG_6945

The third crêpe we tried was ‘The Perfect Combination’ shown to the left. This was made with fresh strawberries and a chocolate drizzle.

CE-7 IMG_1510

In addition to the inside dining area, they have a nice covered area outside.

When we were there there were several customers. We enjoyed all three of the crêpes we tried. If you like crêpes you will like Crêpe Expectations!

As an added benefit when we left Crêpe Expectations we looked in at the neighboring establishment Gama Mexican Bakery & Cakes. In the same strip mall all within easy walking distance are Le Paris Brest Cafe and The Original Rolled Ice Cream. These are all great finds!

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – M&M’S Las Vegas

iu

(See my other Dessert related posts) – We are back in Nevada and took a chance to go to the Las Vegas strip for a little sightseeing. Our first stop was the M&M’S Store. The store is located in the Showcase Mall, 3785 South Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109. Of course we, like everyone else, were masked up. The store was also limiting the number of people allowed in.

IMG_0403

This 28,000 square foot, a four-floor tribute to the M&M was the first M&M’S Store that was opened.

Inside you will find anything and everything related to the M&M. Including these ‘life-size’ figures.

As soon as you walk into the building you are confronted with a variety of merchandise – all M&M oriented. There are all sorts of figures, cups, caps, and t-shirts.

MM2 - IMG_7754

On the second floor, you are given the opportunity to select from a wide variety of M&M’S. These are in many flavors you will not find elsewhere.

On the third floor is more merchandise. You can also order custom printed M&M’S from the personal printer. You can combine customized messages, a variety of images, and 16 different colors of M&M’S candies.

MM4 - IMG_9359

On the fourth floor is more merchandise and a replica of Kyle Busch’s 18 M&M’S sponsored NASCAR.

MM2 - IMG_8879

My wife even found an M&M’S themed purse she liked.

This was an enjoyable excursion. If you are in Las Vegas, this is a place you should visit, especially if you have kids. And just a short distance down the street is the Coca-Cola Store for more family enjoyment.

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – Gama Mexican Bakery & Cakes

IMG_4262

(See my other Dessert related posts) – Just by chance, we came across Gama Mexican Bakery and Cakes when visiting Crêpe Expectations next door. Gama is located at 9500 S Eastern Ave, Suite 170, Las Vegas, NV. We thought it was quite the find!

We spoke with one of the pastry chefs and found out that they had been open for less than a month in this location.

IMG_3229

We have now visited the bakery twice and are planning on stopping by before we head back to Texas.

We have tried more than half a dozen different items and they have all be wonderful!

IMG_3089

As you can see from these photos, many different items are offered. I just wanted to tell them to give me a couple of everything, but I would have been on a sugar high!

IMG_7093

Not only are there this large assortment of pastry items, but they also have a variety of cakes. They sounded good too but were simply too much for us right now. Maybe on a special occasion when we return to Nevada.

All of their items are hand made daily. The Gama is a small family-owned business but offers quality professional prepared baked goods. You can check out their full line of food and baked goods on their website. You can also place special orders for custom cakes.

They offer other food items including some very tasty tamales.

IMG_8139

They also have refrigerated items like Flan. I am sure we will be visiting the Gama every time we return to Nevada.

In the same strip mall are two other good places: Le Paris Brest Cafe and The Original Rolled Ice Cream.

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – Crumbl Cookies

PeanutButterBrownie600x600(See my other Dessert related posts) – A few days ago a friend here in Henderson, NV mentioned that the best cookies ever came from Crumbl. We had never heard of Crumbl so we checked it out. We are glad we did.

The first Crumbl location opened in Logan, UT in 2017. There are now more than 70 locations in 11 different states. I checked and there IS a location near home in Pflugerville, TX (18817 Limestone Commercial Dr, Pflugerville, TX 78660). Their goal was to bake the best cookies.

After sampling a few I have to say that they are some of the best cookies I have eaten. My brother-in-law had a birthday coming up so we ordered a ‘Party Box’. This is a 12 cookie assortment of your choice for $27.48. Singly the cookies sell for $3.48.

Yes, that sounds a little expensive, but these are very large, very good cookies! We drove over to the location near UNLV (4700 Maryland Pkwy #135, Las Vegas, NV 89178) and let them know we were waiting. A young lady then brought the box out to our car.

These are LARGE cookies. Each is about 6 inches in diameter and half an inch thick. Many have a topping as well. I looked up the Oreo cookie on this week’s list. The nutrition info indicates a cookie is two servings. I agree with that! It comes in at 940 calories, 44 g of Fat, 166 g of cholesterol, 396 g of sodium, 8 g of protein, and 128 g of carbohydrates.

They were still warm when we picked them up. Unfortunately, they had cooled by the time we had lunch and finally started in on the cookies. They were still wonderful!

So what kind of cookies do they have? The assortment changes every week. As I write this post the assortments for last week and this week are shown above. The Peanut Butter (A warm chocolate cookie stuffed with peanut butter dough topped with melted milk chocolate and peanut butter) is shown at the top of this post. There was a different set to select from when we made our order. We remember that there was a German Chocolate and a Carrot Cake in our order. Visit their website and salivate a little over the cookie descriptions.

Screen Shot 2020-04-20 at 10.14.25 AM

They also offer their own custom flavors of ice cream. I haven’t tried any of these. Shown to the left are the current flavors (though all sold out).

If you are looking for a different treat, and live near one of their locations, give them a try. The results will please your sweet tooth!

USA, Nevada, Las Vegas – The Original Rolled Ice Cream

rol-logo-150x150(See my other posts from our 2019 Road Trip and those related to desserts) – While on our road trip and visiting family in Henderson, NV my brother-in-law took us to a “The Original Rolled Ice Cream” location. The one we visited was at 9500 S Eastern Ave, Suite 110
Las Vegas, NV
(one of their four locations). This happened to be just across the parking lot from the Hot n Juicy Crawfish location where we had enjoyed lunch.

rol-aboutThis is your typical ice cream place in many regards, but their special twist is how they prepare the ice cream – into a roll. Liquid ice cream is poured out onto a very cold metal surface. It is spread over the surface into a thin layer which quickly freezes.

Then with a knife, one roll after another is scraped up from the cold surface.

The rolls of ice cream are then placed on end in a cup and the selected toppings are added.

rt2019 - 0075

We had picked out the small version of their “Smores” creation from the menu. We enjoyed this somewhat unique ice cream dessert and look forward to trying it again one day

Las Vegas, Nevada – Texas de Brazil Steakhouse

serveimage-4

Food – A few nights ago we went with family to the Texas de Brazil Steakhouse in Las Vegas. This location is at 6533 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89119. This is only one of the many locations of this restaurant. Sadly, there is no location in Austin, Texas or Singapore . . . yet.

serveimage-2

First, there is a huge salad bar. This contains salad items and some hot side dishes. You can opt to just eat off of the salad bar ($19.99 for lunch, $29.99 for dinner). Easily I could eat my fill just at the salad bar and never have more than one serving of any item. The challenge is not eating too much from the salad bar before you are served the meats.

serveimage-3

The real attraction to this restaurant is the variety of meats that are brought to your table. The full experience is $32.99 for lunch and $51.99 for dinner and well worth it. Waiters bring skewers of meat by your table (examples shown in the photo above – NOTE all photos in this post from Google image search). You can pick and choose what to have added to your plate. They keep coming by until you are stuffed! The meats include Herb-Marinated Pork Loin, Picanha, Brazilian Sausage, Leg of Lamb, Chicken Breast Wrapped in Bacon, Alcatra, Lamb Chops, Filet Mignon Wrapped in Bacon, Parmesan-Crusted Pork Loin, Garlic Picanha, Braised Beef Ribs, Barbecued Pork Ribs, and Parmesan Drumettes. It was all wonderful!

serveimage-5

The service was excellent. The food was plentiful and delicious. We are already talking about returning the next time we are in Las Vegas with family. This is a great experience, though a little on the pricey side. Just make sure you prepare yourself before going and fast all day!

Henderson and the Valley

Most who visit Las Vegas just see the lights of the city. Las Vegas and neighboring Henderson are part of a desert valley. While the area is very developed with the 600 square mile basin now home to more than 2 million, it is a very arid desert.

This is a look around part of Henderson and down into the valley where the skyline of Las Vegas can be seen.
