Trailers – The “Justice League” move will premier November 17, 2017. I’m not that huge of a fan of the new DC Universe, but I do like Wonder Woman. It will be interesting to see if this collection of DC superheroes (Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman) will be able to deliver a memorable viewing experience. The synopsis (from IMDB):
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
Trailers – “Missions” is a 10-part French science fiction / horror series released on the horror streaming service from AMC, Shudder. The dialog is in French with English subtitles. The primary character is the psychologist for the mission. The synopsis (according to Mashable):
With the funding of an eccentric billionaire, the crew of a manned craft aims to be the first to land on Mars. Much to the dismay of all on board however, just before the culmination of their 10-month journey to the Red Planet, they are made aware of a video sent by a rival ship that has overtaken them and already landed on the planet thanks to a revolutionary engine. The bad news doesn’t end there however, as the tape contains a cryptic warning from the Americans pleading with the crew not to land as something far too dangerous is happening on the surface. After a chaotic landing on Mars, the crew finds a survivor — but he’s not from their rival mission. His name is Vladimir Komarov. He is Russian. And he is the first man who died in space…in 1967.
I’m not a big fan of subtitled films as I find it very distracting to have to read the text. If you have access to Shudder the series began on September 28.
Trailers – The science fiction thriller “The Shape of Water”, directed and co-authored by Guillermo del Toro, is scheduled to open in December of 2017. The synopsis (from IMDB):
An other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
This film may have possibilities. It is already rated at 7.3/10 on IMDB. It was also awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.
Trailer – Star Wars – The first trailer for the Star Wars film “The Last Jedi” is out. From what little the 2:34 trailer show, it will be a good movie. I think I need to watch it a few more times though to have a grasp on what is being revealed. The synopsis (from IMDB):
Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.
Looking forward, along with a few others, to the release December 15, 2017!
Trailers – The science fiction thriller “Geostorm” will be opening October 20. The synopsis (from IMDB):
When the network of satellites designed to control the global climate start to attack Earth, it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.
I’m not sure about this film. It looks to me like the latest disaster thriller, and that it takes a lot of latitude with the “science” behind their weather control project.
Trailers – The science fiction/horror movie “Annihilation” starring Natalie Portman will be in theaters in February of 2018. It is based on the first book of author Jeff VanderMeer‘s “Southern Reach Trilogy” – “Annihilation“. The synopsis (from IMDB):
A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don’t apply.
This movie looks very promising.
Trailers – This new thriller is scheduled to be out in March of 2018. The synopsis (per IMDB):
Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations.
This looks like another spy thriller that has possibilities.
Trailer – I have to say I neither saw or even heard of the original Skyline (2010 with only a 4.4/10 on IMDB). This sequel looks like it might be pretty good, at least based upon this 2:12 trailer. The movie is scheduled for an international release in November, with a limited American release and VOD sales afterwards. The synopsis:
A tough-as-nails detective embarks on a relentless pursuit to free his son from a nightmarish alien warship.
Trailers – I always liked the original Jumanji with Robin Williams. This one is . . . well it is different, though it still looks like it might be enjoyable. It will be interesting to see what the film is really like when it opens December 20. The synopsis is:
Four teenagers discover an old video game console and are literally drawn into the game’s jungle setting becoming the adult avatars they choose.
An interesting twist in this version is that of the four teens (two guys and two girls) one of the girls becomes a guy in the game played by Jack Black. This could be a good sequel to the original.
Trailers – This reboot of the Tomb Raider movies looks interesting, though I think that I like Angelina Jolie instead of Alecia Vikander as Laura Croft. That may change after the movie is out. It is hard to really tell from a 2:13 trailer.
This new Tomb Raider movie is supposed to be more in line with the rebooted game released in 2013. We have a while to wait as it isn’t currently scheduled for release until March 16, 2018. From this brief look the movie has real possibilities.
