Science Fiction – Trailers – I watched the movie “Extinction” about a month ago on Netflix. It has been out now for almost a year. The synopsis per IMDB:
A father has a recurring dream of losing his family. His nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction. Fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep them safe from harm.
I enjoyed this film and think it is a good Science Fiction story, though it only earned a 5.8/10 rating on IMDB. I think it deserves a better rating than that. I like the plot twist at the end of the film.
Trailers – This trailer is from back in December and the movie “Captain Marvel” has been open now in theaters since March 8. The synopsis (if you have been hiding in a cave somewhere) from IMDB is:
After crashing . . . on uncharted territory, Air Force pilot Carol Danvers is brought up by the Kree to being a member of the elite Starforce Military under the command of her mentor Yon-Rogg. Six years later, after crash landing on Earth while under attack by the Skrulls, Danvers begins to discover that she is not who she believes she is. With help from SHIELD agent Nick Fury, Danvers begins to unravel the truth about her past. What she discovers is a secret that will unleash her true power and becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes ever known.
My wife and I went to see “Captain Marvel” this past Sunday evening and we both really enjoyed it. It has earned a scored of 7.1/10 on IMDB, which seems a little low to me. According to Wikipedia, the film has grossed over $760 million (at the time I am writing this post) worldwide. That has been accomplished in less than three weeks! It is so far the highest-grossing film of 2019. The primary character of the movie, Carol Danvers, first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1968. The character has also been known as Ms. Marvel, Binary, and Warbird before taking on the current name of Captain Marvel.
Neither of us had heard of the character before the movie.
Now we know how Fury got his eye patch!
GoT – Trailers – A new trailer for Season 8, the final season, of Game of Thrones has been released. Not a lot is shown in this short (2:03) trailer. In just over a month Season 8 will be here. While I am looking forward to it, I will be sorry to see it end. I’m pretty sure I know what everyone will be doing on April 14!
Science Fiction– I watched the 2018 science fiction movie “Occupation” a few nights ago on NetFlix. This Australian perspective on alien invasion was interesting. The synopsis per IMDB:
A small group of town residents has to band together after a devastating ground invasion. As they struggle to survive, they realize they must stay one step ahead of their attackers, and work together for a chance to strike back.
I hadn’t heard of this movie until I saw it listed on NetFlix. I enjoyed the movie though it only earned a 5.2/10 rating on IMDB. It struck me as an Australian point-of-view mashup of “Independence Day” and “Red Dawn“.
Trailers – The series “Nightflyers” from SyFy will be available this December. This is a TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s sci-fi horror novella of the same name. The synopsis per IMDB:
A crew of space explorers embarks on a mission to find a mysterious alien ship.
I think this one will be as much horror as it will science fiction. At least that is what I take from the trailers and other media reports on the program. It will be something that I want to at least try.
Trailers – I just watched the latest trailer for Aquaman. The movie is due in theaters this December. The synopsis per IMDB:
Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.
This looks like it has potential. Another comic book superhero comes to the big screen.
Trailers – Just watched this trailer for the YouTube original series “Origin”. The synopsis on IMDB is:
A group of strangers struggles for survival aboard a spaceship heading to a distant planet.
It looks like it has potential. Episodes will be available this November.
Trailers – I watched the trailer for the new Netflix series “Maniac” this morning. The synopsis per IMDB:
Two strangers are drawn to a mysterious pharmaceutical trial that will, they’re assured, with no complications or side-effects whatsoever, solve all of their problems, permanently. Things do not go as planned.
After watching the trailer I think I will start watching the series on Netflix. It looks interesting. It has earned an 8.2/10 rating on IMDB.
Trailers – The final trailer for the next film in the world of Harry Potter is out. The movie “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will be opening in theaters November 16. The synopsis (per IMDB):
The second installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.
The synopsis doesn’t say much about the film, but the trailers I have seen look very good. I look forward to seeing the film in November.
Trailers – The first trailer for the movie “Captain Marvel” has been released. The movie is due in theaters March of 2019. The synopsis (per IMDB):
Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
The short (1:56) trailer does not reveal a lot, though this movie looks like it has potential. I look forward to seeing it next year.
