Trailer for “Nightflyers”

Trailers – The series “Nightflyers” from SyFy will be available this December. This is a TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s sci-fi horror novella of the same name. The synopsis per IMDB:

A crew of space explorers embarks on a mission to find a mysterious alien ship.

I think this one will be as much horror as it will science fiction. At least that is what I take from the trailers and other media reports on the program. It will be something that I want to at least try.

Extended Trailer for “Aquaman”

Trailers – I just watched the latest trailer for Aquaman. The movie is due in theaters this December. The synopsis per IMDB:

Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.

This looks like it has potential. Another comic book superhero comes to the big screen.

Trailer for “Maniac”

Trailers – I watched the trailer for the new Netflix series “Maniac” this morning. The synopsis per IMDB:

Two strangers are drawn to a mysterious pharmaceutical trial that will, they’re assured, with no complications or side-effects whatsoever, solve all of their problems, permanently. Things do not go as planned.

After watching the trailer I think I will start watching the series on Netflix. It looks interesting. It has earned an 8.2/10 rating on IMDB.

Final Trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”

Trailers – The final trailer for the next film in the world of Harry Potter is out. The movie “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” will be opening in theaters November 16. The synopsis (per IMDB):

The second installment of the “Fantastic Beasts” series set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World featuring the adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.

The synopsis doesn’t say much about the film, but the trailers I have seen look very good. I look forward to seeing the film in November.

Trailer for “Captain Marvel”

Trailers – The first trailer for the movie “Captain Marvel” has been released. The movie is due in theaters March of 2019. The synopsis (per IMDB):

Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

The short (1:56) trailer does not reveal a lot, though this movie looks like it has potential. I look forward to seeing it next year.

New Trailer for “Prospect”

Trailers – I have seen an earlier trailer for the movie “Prospect”, but this is a much longer version. The movie is due in US theaters in November of 2018. The synopsis:

A teenage girl and her father travel to a remote alien moon, aiming to strike it rich. They’ve secured a contract to harvest a large deposit of the elusive gems hidden in the depths of the moon’s toxic forest. But there are others roving the wilderness and the job quickly devolves into a fight to survive. Forced to contend not only with the forest’s other ruthless inhabitants but with her own father’s greed-addled judgment, the girl finds she must carve her own path to escape.

This is a dark science fiction tale that has the feel of a western. It is based on a short film by the same name. It looks promising and has already scored a 7/10 on IMDB.

Trailer for “Air Strike”

TrailersWWII – The new WWII era movie “Air Strike” (AKA “Unbreakable Spirit”) will be in theaters this October in the US. The synopsis per IMDB:

During World War II, five different Chinese people fight their way through Japanese Air Force attacks to protect an important military machine in Chongqing, 1940.

It is hard to tell much about this film from the trailer. Certainly, it implies a lot of action in the film. This is a Chinese film with both English and Chinese dialog, though it looks like the Chinese voices are dubbed into English for the version released in the US.

Trailer for “Overlord”

TrailersWWII – The new movie from J. J. Abrams and Bad Robot, “Overlord” is due out in November of 2018. This is a World War II movie, but with a zombie-like twist. A small group of American paratroopers find themselves behind German lines on D-Day. They come across a small French village where the Germans are experimenting to develop immortal soldiers.  The synopsis on IMDB is:

The story of two American soldiers behind enemy lines on D Day.

I’m not too sure about this film. I am not a big zombie fan. I will have to see how far into the horror genre this film goes.

Trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”

Trailers – This trailer for the upcoming movie “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” was posted to YouTube today. As posted on the YouTube page for this movie the synopsis is:

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

I have to say that this episode in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ series looks much more interesting than the first installment. There appears to be more of a story here than in the first episode. I look forward to seeing it when it comes out in mid-November of this year.
