Book Review – “IQ” eBook was published in 2016 and was written by Joe Ide (http://www.joeide.com). This is Mr. IDe’s first published novel.

I received a galley of this novel for review through https://www.netgalley.com. I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence, Mature Language and Mature Situations. The story is set in the section of Los Angeles where the gangs are on the street. The main character is Isaiah “IQ” Quintabe. A brilliant high school drop out turned detective. He helps out those that have no where else to turn.

Sigh. I had hopes for this novel. I invested 2.5 hours into it and finished 22%, but in the end I had to call a “Rule of 50” on it. The primary character was OK, and may have turned out to be a great private eye character. The novel was well written and seemed to have some possibilities . . . unfortunately, I just couldn’t put up with the “ghetto talk” that everyone “IQ” encountered used. The cover art is OK, but does not give much of a hit at the story. I give this novel a 2 out of 5.

My book reviews are also published on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/31181778-john-purvis).
